なぜClutioなのか？
翻訳ツールはたくさんあります。Clutioの違いを四つの言葉にまとめました。

前後の文を読み、この文に合う意味を選びます。
通常は単語だけを翻訳すると意味が並ぶだけで、どれなのかは自分で選ぶことになります。
Clutioでは選んだ単語とその文を一緒に渡し、文脈での意味を先に、一般的な意味をその下に示します。

単語帳はあなたのブラウザの中だけにあります。
通常は翻訳履歴がサービスのアカウントやサーバーに蓄積されることがよくあります。
Clutioでは単語帳・学習記録・APIキーはIndexedDBとchrome.storageにだけ保存されます。解析するときだけ、単語とその文があなたが選んだAIへ直接送られます。

The questions we hear most before people install.
Is Clutio really free?
Yes. The default engine runs on Groq’s free tier (openai/gpt-oss-20b): 1,000 requests a day and 30 a minute on your own Groq key. Signing up needs phone verification only — no card. You can add a ChatGPT or Claude key for different quality, but it’s optional. (Groq retired Llama 3.1 8B and Llama 3.3 70B in August 2026; existing settings move to gpt-oss-20b automatically.)
Are my translations stored on a server?
No. Clutio has no server of its own. Your vocabulary, study history and API keys stay in your browser (IndexedDB and chrome.storage). There is exactly one path out of the browser: when you look a word up, the word and its sentence go directly from your browser to the AI provider you chose (Groq, OpenAI or Anthropic). We never see that content.
How do I get an API key?
Sign up at console.groq.com (phone verification), then open API Keys → Create API Key. A key starting with gsk_ is shown once — copy it and paste it into Clutio’s setup guide. New accounts allow every model by default, so there’s no permission step. Only if a lookup fails with “model not allowed” (403), open Settings → Limits → Model Permissions and allow openai/gpt-oss-20b.
How is it different from Google Translate?
Three things. 1) You look words up where you’re reading — select and right-click, no tab switching. 2) It reads the sentence the word sits in and shows the meaning in that sentence first. 3) Each word is saved with its sentence and flows into review, study sheets and tests.
What languages are supported?
The interface and results are available in 7 languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French and German. Because an AI does the reading, you can look up words in sentences written in other languages too.
How does the vocabulary work?
Every word you look up goes into your vocabulary automatically — there’s no save button. Click the extension icon to search and open entries. The review screen turns your saved sentences into fill-in-the-blank questions, and you can generate A4 study sheets and tests as PDFs or export everything to CSV.
Do you support browsers other than Chrome?
Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Opera and others) are supported today. Firefox and Safari may come later.
